Greetings heroes/citizens,today I’ll review a Transformers action figure. A Destron/Decepticon, known as Starscream, is a Transformers Henkei D-02 ( I guest it means Destron 02). This is a Takara version, there is another one like this that was made by Hasbro on 2006 in the Transformers Classics line. To me this is just another reissue from Takara, with some minor repaint done to the figure to milk more money from collectors like me. I got this just because I missed the first batch from Hasbro, or actually I was sceptical to buy it at first.
Takara’s version requires a bit more money to procure, it cost me RM59.90, while the Hasbro’s version only cost RM49.90. I bought this at the local shopping center “The Store”. Thank god it’s not from scalpers or it will be doubled that amount.
Packaging: First of all it looks like a knock off Transformers. I almost got fooled by it, I thought it was a knock off version, because of the graphics. I think Takara tries to recapture the feelings of the 80’s Transformer with that graphics.I like the simple design of the packaging, because it’s B.I.B (Back I the Box) collectors friendly. Only a thick cardboard taped to a plastic cover for the background,a tray to put the toy and it accessories and the cover. There is an instruction leaflet and a small Japanese Transformers Comic, it also shows other Transformers that was released in this line.
Design/sculpt: At first I thought it is not worth to buy a Starscream. That was when Hasbro first produced it, but I read some great comments about it. When I realized that it’s not a bad version of Starscream, it was too late. Thanks to Takara it was reissued.
So why it is a great Starscream? It stands about 6 inches tall and the sculpt is very detailed for a Deluxe class Transformers.Almost like a small version of the Masterpiece Starscream. To transform him you need to turn the wings just like the masterpiece version. He looks like in the animation, I give him 80% animation accurate. For a RM60 action figure Takara gave this figure a collectors’ value by using translucent orange plastics for the cockpit’s panel, they also do their best to match different colors of parts to make it believable without using additional paints for the parts.
This figure looks great both in vehicle mode and robot mode.
Articulations: It is a great figure to play with, because of the articulations. It can be posed in many different pose without so much problems. It’s stable to stand on it’s own. It uses ball joints for the torso and hip.
Colors: The colors have nothing much to complain or comment. The color scheme for Starscream is almost like in the animation. Not like the Hasbro’s Classics which is very different from the animation. The color for the null ray blasters( on his hands) is added with chrome, you have to handle it with care because it is easy to chipped. Again different from Hasbro’s version.
Accessories: Only a pair null ray blasters and it’s missiles. The null ray blaster can shot the missiles, just a candy for this figure.
