Greetings heroes/citizen. This is going to be a short review since I’m still in Eid mood lol. This will be another Figuarts review, but not action figure but the first bike released as regular release S.H.Figuarts Ex Machine Hardboilder. Machine Hardboilder is Kamen Rider Double’s ride. The name Hardboilder came from the term “Hardboiled”, usually associated with detective novel, which is also the genre of Kamen Rider Double series. This bike was released on late of August 2010, and the price range from Yen 2900 to Yen 4000. I got this from Hobby Search.

The box is a smaller than Tamashii Exclusives’ bikes. It inherit the design of the regular figures’ boxes. There’s a plastic bubble where they put the bike and an instruction sheet inside the box. I think the instruction sheet is useless as it did not tell you how to separate the bike (keep reading this review).

The bike sculpts are magnificent. By comparing to the actual bike from photos I got from internet, I think Bandai done a really great job replicating the bike. Of course the they have to clean it up a bit, you can’t see much tubes or wiring details on the bike, but essential details from the real bike are here on this scaled down bike.

Hardboilder was designed so that it can be used with add ons to operates on different environment and situation more effectively. The back of the bike (green part) can be detached from the front body and the (front body) can be attached to the ad ons parts. The default formation is No.1 which is Hardboilder (and Booster Dash), there are No.2  and 3  and Hardboilder can also combine with Gunner A. The No. 2 (Hard Turbular)  is confirmed to be released by Bandai on Tamashii Webstore as exclusives by the end of this year, so is the Booster Dash. There is however, no news about No.3 (Hardsplasher) announce yet, I’m sure they’ll also make it soon.

As I mentioned earlier, the instruction sheet does not give me much help. It didn’t mention that the bike can be detached. It worried me a bit the first time I tried to detach the parts since there is no instruction. To detached the bike, first I detached the front fork (not a must step), and I used some force to pull the black and green part out. There is no release button.

Both wheels were made of die cast metal, and rubber tires. The engine case covers were also made of die cast metal. The die cast parts give the bike some weight and it feels good holding the bike.

The not so good thing I’d like to point out here is that, you can’t make Double to sit on the bike properly. It like Bandai did not planned to make Hardboilder when they design the figure, the leg’s rest is too tiny and it’s too close to the rider. You can make him ride the bike but he doesn’t looks comfortable. It’s possible to make him pose on the bike in riding pose, but it’s very hard.

The bike only movable parts are the wheels,handle bar(front fork), kickstand and swing arms (suspension). The wheels turn smoothly, no problem at all.

The colors are simple, a light metallic green and matte black with some red and silver paints for details. The paint application is clean and I like it very much.

The only accessory it came with is the black stand, it’s not even a Stage Act kind of stand, just a small base to hold the back wheel.

Overall, I really appreciate Bandai for making more bikes for their Riders. This is the first time Bandai released a bike as regular release and I’m hoping Bandai will make more bikes for S.H.F Kamen Riders. We knew they’ll release Cyclone next month. This bike is a must if you have S.H.Figuarts Double and if you only collecting Kamen Rider’s rides. I can’t wait to get the add ons parts. The sculpts are amazing and it is a great representation of Hardboilder in collectibles scale. I love the paint apps, it’s simple, clean and detail.

I give this bike;

Packaging: 4.5/5

Sculpt/Design: 5/5 (it is a great representation of HB)

Articulations: N/A but the wheels turn smoothly, and kudos for the suspension

Colors: 5/5

Accessory: 2/5
