NECA: Chris Redfield-Review.

Greetigs heroes/citizen. Wow, it’s so long since I wrote my last review. Resident Evil 5 hit the game stores around the world couples of months ago, I had a chance to play the demo version right now, I’m planning to get the full version but not now, too many tempting action figures will be out soon and I need to save money for them. But after playing the demo, I’m sure this is the game that I want to buy.
Enough chit chat about the game I got here is the action figure manufactured by NECA. This is the first wave which consist of 3 action figures, Chris, Sheva and Majini. I only got this one right now, why? Because this action figure (as I know) is not yet arrive in my country, and belive me when I said I bought this way over the retail price of other NECA’s toys selling here, so for now I only get this one. I’m sure I will get the other once they reached my country.Retail price for this range from about $15.99 to $25 a piece.
Packaging; simple, but very attractive. The action figure came in a clamshell, a few graphics paper inside, and there is bio of Chris printed on the front of the clamshell. Kewl! The action figure was laid on a plastic tray and tied by a twisty.
Design/sculpt; K, personally I like the sculpt of the whole piece, Chris stand about 7 inch tall. But if you are a very neaty-gritty person, you notice that the head sculpt was done well,…not poorly but yeah it’s kinda sux a bit.I’m not sure if it’s the sculpt or the poor paint aps that made the head sculpt looks kinda silly, but it’s not that bad, it’s acceptable, and I think it’s not a big issue after all.
But believe me, other parts of the action figure’s sculpt was done in very detail. The shirt and jeans, have very obvious texture of cloth, which is very kewl! The hands have veins popping out of the muscles, the jeans and shirt folds are reasonable and not exaggerated. The vest and other pouches are fixed to the figure itself and cannot be removed.
The pistol’s holster and machete’s sheath was made of rubber. The holster’s (I’m not sure if it’s only mine) flap, will not set in place perfectly if you put the pistol in, but the machete’s sheath have no problem.The knee pads were also made of rubber, so it will not disturb the movement of the knees at all.
Articulations; not the best but not the worst either, just like most of other NECA’s action figures I guess. The elbow have pinned joints, so is the hip. The hip can be moved in 3 directions. Pinned knees, but it can also be rotated 360 degree. Cut waist and wrist,ball joint on the shoulders and the head can only rotate 360 degree, no up and down movement can be made. Both ankles also have points of articulation, but I think it’s useless.
Colorings; this is the problem I had the most with this action figure. It was bad, the applications is messy and I don’t mind if it’s on the shirt or jeans, but the hair, you can see the picture I took of his hair, a very obvious smudges on the left side of his hair. Also his face, the wash is over done, I had to use thinner to wipe it off a bit. But I failed to remove the smudges on his hair. Yes the pictures I took is after the wash on his face particularly on the jaw and chin was wiped off a bit.
Other than that the color is nicely done,the effect on the jeans is awesome, good job!
So, is this action figure really worth to buy? I say yes. get it before it ran out on the retail store and I’ve seen the price was jacked up to more than GBP25 for a piece on eBay.
Where to get;
Maybang usually stocked with NECA’s product.
Forbiden Planet UK is still taking pre-order, they’re selling it for GBP13.99 (p.o price)
Entertainment Earth also have it but temporarily unavailable now.
CMDStore also have the three of them
