Greetings heroes/citizen, I’ve been waiting for this moment almost half year and now I have it! Iron Man Mark II, this is the armor created by Tony for the flight test after his Mark I armor failed to fly in control during his escape. This is (in the movie) the more stabilize armor for flying, but it have some minor flaw (frost occurred in high altitude will crash the armor’s electronic systems), it also have the “raw” look as it was not coated with paint yet. Anyway this armor will then upgraded to Mark III which is the final version in the movie. Why am I so excited about this action figure? I got my Mark III but honestly I don’t have the same excitement when I got this version. The feeling of getting this action figure is beyond describe. Retail price for this action figure range from $139 to $170 but some dealer even mark up the price as high as $200.
Packaging; like the previous Hot Toys Iron Man MK III, the box is about the same size as other HT’s 12″ figures boxes and the material is thick and heavy. Rather than having a slide cover the box have a flap which cover to the back of the box. The flap use magnets to set them on place I like magnet better than velcro, the box will look more clean and sleek when close.
Design/sculpt; forgive me for I am a very careless person
I took the pictures and at the end I noticed that I did not close the right hand’s missile cover. Usually I test (actually play the action figure haha) action figure prior taking their pics and that’s why it’s opened. It’s not a manufacturing defect or broken at all.
My Mark III is the first batch, so it have manufacturing defect especially the brake flaps on his back and the leg’s cover, well almost every cover on my MK III is not properly close. That is not an issue anymore in this MK II version, the only problem I have with this is the left hand’s missile cover, it will not close perfectly, but if you see in the pictures I took it can hardly be noticed.
The design is the same as MK III, but with additional rivets on the armor, that’s what I meant by it’s looking “raw”. It’s a clever design as most of the points of articulations are very well hidden. The back of the knees and the elbow was covered by rubber.
The upper part of his body was made of abs plastic and below the chest was made of rubber. You can see tubing and steel plates sculpted under the chest armor, really add more aesthetic value to the action figure.
Under the legs cover, there are the inside mechanism of the armor, although the sculpts are great and very detail, the mechanisms are not moveable.
Tony Stark headsculpt, is marvelous. Personally I like this better than the one that came with MK III. I also loves the gimmick they installed for collectors on this action figure, the removable mask. It’s awesome, I congrats Hot Toys (which I think is a very creative toy company) for innovating this head. It uses magnets to hold the mask to the helmet, this really give me more freedom to move the mask as I like. Because the whole idea of making this removable face plate is to show the face, if you put down the mask to cover his face it will not cover it up perfectly. There will be a large gap between the mask and the helmet. In the picture below, I mark 4 arrows on the mask , the 2 bottom arrows is not metal plates but only silver painting.
Other gimmick is the same as MK III, they use translucent ball joints for the neck and writs so it can light up the palms and eyes. Not to forget, the missiles can be shown just by flipping up the cover.
Articulations; although it is suppose to be super poseable, but I don’t want to take the risk of scratching the paints or breaking the joints, because I have a long history of accidentally breaking toys
But trust me the points articulations are great and simple pose but not too dynamic/acrobatic pose can easily be achieved. Most joints are using ball joints. They are easy to popped off/in, so don’t worry about that.
Colorings; this is the best part of the best! I really love the paints aps. The finish is actually not just silver color, it got some darker silver/grey on the edges of some of the riveted “metal” plates. The figure is so shiny that it’s hard for me to take pictures because it will reflect the environment. My MK III is not as shiny as this T_T. Why Hot Toys? WHY????!!!!! The color for Tony’s face, I think he need a little bit of tanning, it’s too pale
.
Accessories; there are 4 more extra palm (can light up), a Tony’s “heart” in display box (also light up), extra head with removable mask. Like all Hot Toys 12 inch products there is a display stand for the figure.
This action figure is almost sold out everywhere but Sideshow Collectibles is still taking order, you have to wait though. CMDStore is still taking pre-order, you don’t have to wait.

Iron Man II is going to be awesome. The first was the only comic-book based movie that I actually consider to be better than the original comic (and yes, I did read Iron Man for many years).

Yeah couldn’t agree more with you. I’m really looking forward for the second movie.
